Coastal Collective

Brand Guidelines · v1

01 · The Mark

A single continuous line.

Three coastal symbols drawn in one unbroken stroke: the sun rising over a headland, and the wave beneath it. The continuity is the point. The line never lifts, the way a community holds together.

Drawn with weighted stroke variation, thicker on the verticals and thinner on the horizontals, so the mark reads as a single hand-drawn gesture.

02 · Two Forms

Full at large sizes. Mark alone when small.

Large · with Est. 2026
Small · mark only

The “Est. 2026” colophon belongs to hero applications, where there is room for it to be read: signage, a homepage header, print at scale. At small sizes it becomes noise, so it drops away and the mark stands alone.

03 · Clear Space & Minimum Size

Clear space.
Keep a margin equal to the height of the sun’s dome on all sides. Nothing intrudes: no text, no edges, no other marks.

56px min · screen

below this, line breaks up

The fine line needs room. Hold the mark at 56px and above on screen. For favicons and very small icons, a simplified heavier variant will be needed.

04 · The Lockup

Coastal Collective

Primary lockup, stacked.

Mark sits above the wordmark as a seal.
Mark width 35% of wordmark width
Gap between = 1× cap height of wordmark
Wordmark optically centred beneath the mark

Use the horizontal lockup (mark left of wordmark) only where vertical space is tight.

05 · Typography

Cormorant Garamond

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz  1234567890

Light · 300
Display, wordmark, headlines.
Used at 400px width and above.
Regular · 400
Small-size variant.
Used below 200px width, where Light hairlines weaken.
Setting
Generous letter-spacing on display.
Sentence case, not all-caps.

06 · Colour Provisional

Coastal Ink

#2A4B5F

The mark, the wordmark, all primary type. The deep water off Sandbanks.

Shell Paper

#F4EEE2

Primary background, warm and soft, never stark white. The pale dry sand.

Dune

#CFAD78

The golden dune grass. Punctuation on light grounds; the mark’s reversal colour on dark.

Tide

#6E8593

Supporting. Captions, dividers, secondary text. The grey-blue tide under cloud.

The palette is drawn from the Bournemouth and Sandbanks coastline: the deep water, the pale dry sand, the golden dune grass, the grey-blue of the tide under cloud. Ink and paper carry the brand on their own. Dune is the warm note, used as punctuation on light grounds, not decoration: an underline, a date, a small tick. Tide is the quiet structural grey. Confirm the set with the founders before locking.

07 · On Dark Backgrounds

Reverse the whole mark to Dune.

Mark · Dune on Coastal Ink

Coastal Collective

Lockup · Dune on Coastal Ink

On dark grounds the ink mark would disappear, so the whole mark and lockup reverse to Dune. It stays a single colour, it simply changes which colour it wears. Coastal Ink is the natural dark ground. Shell Paper is an alternative reversal where higher contrast is needed, but Dune is the preferred warm treatment.

08 · Usage

Do

  • Keep the mark a single ink colour on a clear background
  • Drop “Est. 2026” for anything but large applications
  • Give it room, respect the clear space
  • Hold the mark at 56px and above on screen
  • Reverse the whole mark to Dune on dark backgrounds

Don’t

  • Recolour the mark or add gradients, shadows, or outlines
  • Stretch, rotate, or distort the line or the lockup
  • Set the wordmark in any face other than Cormorant Garamond
  • Render the mark in two colours at once. It is single-colour only (ink, or Dune reversed)
